So, first of all, it was a false alarm. They weren’t moose flies, just small flying ants. But just the thought of them was enough to send Kirsi into a hysterical fit. She didn’t even notice the audience.
So why are moose flies so creepy?
Well for many reasons. First of all, they look creepy. When they land on you, they almost immediately drop their wings and crawl around like spiders. They’re very flat and very hard and almost impossible to kill. You have to either squeeze their heads off with your fingernails or roll them back and forth until they’re squashed.
And they do bite though many say they leave people alone. They’re bite can last up to a year. Our son got bit on the scalp and a year later he still had an itchy, bloody bump on his head.
So it’s easy to not like them. Just look at this little guy.

you know…
you really should have a more realistic rendering of the the wife and yourself
maybe as a vote incentive
especially of the wife
And then there are bird flies! These look just like moose flies, but they don’t drop their wings when they land on you and they are greenish in colour. I was grew up in the south eastern part of Finland, so moose flies are no news for me, but I actually didn’t know about bird flies untill recently when I found some of those on myself and googled “Moose flies that don’t drop their wings”. Bird flies are just as hard to kill as moose flies.
The states have nasty little bugs like that too. I can’t say how many times I’ve been bitten by just filming out on the fields.
Tell me about it. Countryside is just full of those damn things. I can’t even walk the dog without a small group of them harassing me. Good thing the dog has thick fur so the bugs can’t get her.
But guess who brings them into the house…
Your wife a dealer? Cuz I see some serious crack
Ba dum tch.
Yup, those things are reason why I really do not wanna go to the forest. They creep me out!
The sad thing? We pretty much live in the middle of a forest
