Sometimes I just sit hoping that this time spent away from my family is all worth it…. *SIGH* -Scott-
It’s a well known fact that things are built to break. That’s the way the money keeps rolling. And it really isn’t even a concspiracy theory anymore, it’s just the way things are. Yeah, so I can’t even remember how many lawnmowers we’ve gone through in recent years. And it’s not much consolation if the guarantee [...]
Yeah…. so… it’s me again. I’m going back about 4 months to when this Göteborg thing all started. I had only talked through emails and over the phone with Alf, the Senior Artist for the company and had no idea what he actually looked like. I was really trying to think what a [...]
FINALLY!!!! I FINALLY got internet. The trouble I had to go through to get it though. They promised me a home connection from work, but that didn’t seem to be happening… So I planned to just get it myself. Everywhere I went it was the same answer… “Sorry you need a Personnummer” In other words [...]
Yeah, so for those of you who don’t read the blog… shame on you! I’ve started work at a game company in Göteborg (Gothenburg. I just can’t get used to using that name) and life has once again taken a sudden turn. Göteborg is in the south-west of Sweden so in global terms it’s just [...]
This is basically a “re-run” of this episode… But there’s so many variations of Kirsi’s rushing around that I could do a whole webcomic just about that… -Scott-
So, first of all, in all honesty, that first place that called, hired someone else, but it was STILL closer than I’ve EVER gotten here in Finland despite busting my balls for the last decade or so. Since my decision to chuck working in Finland, I’ve been contacted by Denmark, Germany, Spain, Greece, New Zealand [...]
Friends of ours are on a roadtrip to Legoland in Germany and they left one of their dogs with us. He’s a great dog, a real gentle giant, but he doesa enjoy the occasional “lets chase the sheep” game. It’s surprising how high he can jump for such a big dog. Luckily he obeys very [...]
So as I said earlier, we went to celebrate Kirsi’s sister’s, my sister-in-law’s, Phd in micro-biology. Kirsi was extremely nervous before-hand about making a speech, but Karita assured her that it wasn’t necessary. But everybody decided they wanted to make some kind of speech so the pressure to make one grew as they went from [...]
Kirsi’s sister, my sister-in-law, celebrated getting her PHD on Friday. So we got to dress up and do the whole “don’t we look good” thing -Scott-
In all fairness, their plans ended up being to fly there and back. But at first they were looking into driving there. -Scott-
So as the strip says… a LOT has happened during these months of silence. Most of the things have nothing to do with dates or certain times, but some do and it’s good to have them uploaded at a certain time. So… here it is! -Scott-
It was a historical painting of early Finns working the land. A time when men where men and obviously Finnish men looked like trolls. -Scott-
There’s a painting I made some time ago with me as a knight and Kirsi as a mermaid, (Yeah, yeah, mushy, mushy ) Anyway… ever since Gabriel has be obsessed about when will mommy turn back into a mermaid. -Scott-
I’m not sure if there’s even anyone still following this little strip of mine, but here’s one anyways. Doing “Married” is suddenly sparking inside of me again, so we’ll see how far we get… -Scott-
So yeah, I for some reason thought I was turning 40. I don’t think I was having any REAL crisis or anything, just abit dissapointed that I hadn’t achieved all I set out to when I was younger. I think we ALL go through that at some time. And many of us do it [...]
YES! We WILL be back. I’m working on something that (hopefully) will ready next Tuesday. At least that’s the goal I’ve set for myself. If not totally ready at least ready enough that my full attention isn’t needed. Then the window into our little world will continue… with lot’s of new stuff going on! -Scott-
We’re so used to all the electric noise that goes on around us that we don’t really realize that even in the dead of night, it’s not REALLY silent. During the blackout it WAS silent. No buzzing, clicking or any other electrical noise. -Scott-
Wow! It’s been awhile! But we’ve got our electric and internet running and I’ve now found some time to sit down with Married to my wife. So what’s been going on…. -Scott-
I’m up to my eyeballs in Christmas stuff, so this Fantasy Family Portrait I made for Kirsi some years ago will have to do as an update. Merry Christmas! -Scott-
This all started back about a year ago. I was washing our dogs and if any of you have ever washed about 85kg of dirty dogs you know that afterwards you need a shower too. Well, we were out of shampoo and since this – organic, made for sensitive skin and shiny fur – shampoo [...]
When we were kids it seemed like Christmas would never get here, but as an adult it suddenly jumps out and scares the crap out of you. -Scott-
First of all, I know that the plural for Lego is Lego, but we all say Legos… you know you do too! When we were kids Lego were REALLY expensive here in Finland (they still are actually…) That and coming from a family with lots of siblings, Kirsi never succeeded in building a Lego house [...]
He was so put out when I said “No” that I finally agreed to buy a whole fish the next time I go to the grocery store, so he can touch and investigate the dead fish… -Scott-
It’s funny because every time she passes the aquarium, these fish all gather around. I feed them too, but they don’t really do it to me. I don’t want to know if they ever answer her… -Scott-
There’s been so much bitching and moaning going on lately…! But I’ve always thought that families that were all lovey dovey 24/7 are something to be wary of. -Scott-
Lately it seems that every time Kirsi bends over the cats are on her back getting comfortable And the strange coincidence is that she’s had a sore back… maybe they sense it? -Scott-
For some reason, Gabriel thought he could keep Father’s Day (yesterday, here in Finland) a secret. He succeeded, of course. -Scott-
The wealthiest organization in the country… and they just don’t want to pay for services. But this attitude is pretty common here in Finland. This conversation was with this wacko from here and here. -Scott-
Okay, this needs a bit of explaining… I haven’t used my drawing-board in ages and the other night I was hit by a inspirational urge to draw. So I sat down and drew this. Yes, he’s hairy and there’s a nipple there. -Scott-
Okay, so in all truth we didn’t actually park on the other side of the city, it was only a few kilometers. But believe me, it felt like the other side of the city!! Try running that distance with the whole family while carrying your kids. But we made it. We just barely missed [...]
I think this is the first unfinished strip I’ve put up… the fact is, I’m just too tired to sit up at the computer and finish it right now. I don’t sleep much as it is and lately I’ve been sleeping even less. This will have to be scooted over to Wednesday, I’m afraid. [...]
Many of you might not be familiar with the goings on of Conan O’brien, but one of his skits was “In the Year 2000″. Back when we were coming up on the year 2000, they’d do a little comical bit where they’d dress up in these robes and do that song and then have comical/sarcastic [...]
And this concludes our Blackout series. Luckily the electric came back on before the third Act of The Nutcracker -Scott-
One thing that didn’t really come across in the last strip was that I was home alone with Amanda, our youngest. It was really like being blind. -Scott-
Strip number 100!! That’s right this is strip number 100. There’s been some informative strips, but I haven’t included those in the count. Just the ones that can actually be called a strip. So here we are… almost a year since we started. Lots of stuff, good and bad has happened. Most of it has [...]
One of the first gross things I saw when we moved to Finland so many years ago, was a grown man eat his own snot. He held one nostril and blew his nose onto the ground, wiped his nose with his fingers and… licked them! Needless to say I was shocked beyond belief. Young kids [...]
Some of you know me from Heroes, inc. That’s the webcomic that started my journey into webcomics. I think that most of you who read this strip probably aren’t into the whole superhero thing and that’s fine. I have a pretty broad range of genre interest. Everything from fantasy to superheroes to simple strips. Anyways… [...]
Really. It’s bad enough to realize you have a “Fair Weather Friend”, but also that they’re in with their own opportunistic agenda. First off, let me point out that YES this character is copy/pasted throughout. If you’ve ever seen her deadpan stare, you’d understand. She’s one of these people that when you talk to them [...]
“The enchanted Yes-men…Forever shall fair weather shine upon them.” Why is it that there are so many people in positions they absolutely don’t deserve? :-? -Scott-
NEVER…EVER… trust a person who smiles non-stop!! I knew from the very beginning that there was something fishy about this creepy character and unfortunately I was right. The constant smile and “Life is a basket of flowers” routine doesn’t work. This just isn’t me being a sour-puss. There’s ALWAYS something sinister behind that kind of [...]
Now, I realize that burnt-out is a serious thing. I’ve known people who’ve had serious burnt-out and it’s not funny. This person however… They burn out like other’s change socks. For one thing “Everyone’s doing it” and another thing is that she’s just seeking that “Oh, so and so just works herself to death! Poor [...]
This was a very “Peanuts” moment. We were driving somewhere and our oldest daughter had this sudden “realization”. Remember as a kid how sometimes you suddenly felt so much older than a few years earlier? When in fact, looking back, you were pretty young. If we only knew what was still to come… -Scott-
Once again… “Mummi” is Finnish for grandma. The kids have always considered Santa Claus to be a good pal of Jesus since they both hang around at Christmas time. Gabriel started his wish-list early this year… -Scott-
Amanda, being the youngest (five on Monday) understood that Mummi (Finnish for Grandma) had died and gone to heaven, but she got stuck on some details. She was truly worried that Mummi wouldn’t be able to brush her hair. On a side note, my wacom tablet is on the blink so it’s scanned pencils until I [...]
It’s been one crummy year! At the beginning of this year my grandmother passed away. My mother and I tried to get things in order for one of us to get there (The U.S.) but we didn’t make it on time. Then a few months later my father’s mother died. We weren’t that close for [...]
So, first of all, it was a false alarm. They weren’t moose flies, just small flying ants. But just the thought of them was enough to send Kirsi into a hysterical fit. She didn’t even notice the audience. So why are moose flies so creepy? Well for many reasons. First of all, they look creepy. [...]
And the thing is, I knew exactly what movie she meant. And yes… it was crap too. This coming from a guy who loves special effects. We movie goers have just been totally saturated in this new wave of “Videogame Movies”. Out of the movies we’ve watched lately, Battleground: L.A. was one long videogame. Suckerpunch [...]
To be honest we didn’t expect much of this film to begin with, but we’ve been going through a scifi phase (mostly time travel stuff) and I think we’ve ran out of quality movies in that genre to watch… All suggestions are welcome… -Scott-
This sounds much funnier in Finnish for some reason. So for you Finnish readers, he asked if they were “Topi and Tessu” If Tod and Copper don’t mean anything to you, try “The Fox and The Hound”. Now why the heck he asked that… who knows what goes on in a seven year old’s brain. [...]
I remember as a kid, no matter where we lived, we always had a tent put up in the yard and spent most of the summer out there. I think it’s the same with every generation. As a hindsight, I guess we were lucky enough to live in houses where that was possible. -Scott-
So it’s strip number 80 and I wanted to do something funnny for the occasion (sure it’s not 100, but still…) So I dig out my trusty notebook, which I TRY to keep with me at all times to write stuff in, to look for a funny event. And what do I find at the [...]
Really. We getting ready to go somewhere and she says “I can’t go dressed like this, can I?” If you don’t get the joke, you’re not geeky enough. -Scott-
Midsummer is here and people on the way to their summer cottage don’t care what gets in their way. -Scott-
Yup! Yup! We’re back. I hope that not too many of you have given up for good and will return to read about our quirky life. It feels weird to be drawing again after such a break and just for the sake of change, I colored myself closer to my real facial hair color. [...]
Hey guys N gals! My sincerest apologies for abandoning you (and the strip ) It seems I really bit off more than I could chew with the music video project. Well, actually I bit off a huge chunk and then said how about this too? and this? Ooh, how does this sound? etc. etc. So [...]
Okay, as far as we know none of the kids actually ate anything too gross, but the fact of the matter is that the schoolyard was FULL of crows… When the candy started flying some of these kids looked like Jack Nicholson in The Shining. -Scott-
Gone are the days when a quality camera was a big, clunky thing. So before I get bombarded by comments concerning modern cameras, just let me say that I’m aware that, as the title says, size doesn’t mean anything nowadays. Julian’s camera worked great. Sure, it didn’t have as many options and controls as my [...]
“Donald Duck Syndrome”, the story of my life. Just when the future looks bright, a load of manure lands on my head. -Scott-
Okay, in all honesty I didn’t actually have a “Bullet Time” debate on which I should save. It didn’t even cross my mind to try and save the camera. It all happened so fast that it wasn’t until afterwards that I noticed that the camera came out on the bottom of the dogpile. -Scott-
Wow! I’ve been away for a while! A lot of things have been going on around here. A lot of them will pop up in the strips, so all will be revealed in time. BUT… this one deserves a little explaining. For those of you not in the know, my name is Scott. I also [...]
We watched “The Social Network” a while back and the picture I’ve had of Zuckerberg from interviews etc. of being a “My brain is bigger than yours so basically I can just tell you to screw yourself in a sarcastic, witty way” seems to be true. People go on about how he’s a genius, but [...]
Of course the kids know the basic story of Jesus, but the details of Christmas and Easter tend to get blurry sometimes. Plus I guess it’s just fun including him in their games. -Scott-
I had this idea for a quickie strip because it happens now and then that when one of us gets up before the other, we use the other’s coffee cup. (yeah, yeah mushy, lovey, lovey stuff, I know) So I thought to myself “Hmm, I wonder…” and this morning I mentioned to my wife that [...]
I’ve always wondered why they call it “Funnybone”. In Finland they call it your “Cranky Nerve” and I think that or something along that line is a better name. -Scott-
Yup, try as you may, they don’t stay puppies forever. And yes, she’s wearing “Heat panties”. They actually worked until she learned to take them off… -Scott-
What’s up with the “Children reach puberty earlier nowadays” I refuse to accept this a plain fact! Kids need to be kids!! Oh, and I don’t play with my Star Wars figures… Really… I don’t. -Scott-
I won’t mention any names (theres so many these days), but if you have children (and even if don’t) you’ve probably seen these dolls. They’re supposed to be cute or even sexy, but I consider them just plain freaky. And to think that Barbie was considered as giving the wrong female image to kids. Barbi [...]
Kids can go on for five minutes describing the detailed shading of a particular candy, length of someones hair, color of their skin etc. etc. without ever making their point clear. -Scott-
You can always tell if my wife is coming down with a fever… she laughs her head off at everything that is even a little bit funny. :-D Of course once the fever/bug really kicks in, the giggle eventually turn to moans and groans. :-? -Scott-
So far I’m STILL the only one not affected too much from this sickness. I’ve been trying to do my best Florence Nightingale… ;-) -Scott-
This is after the fact, but yeah, it was my birthday. Not that birthdays really matter at this age, but it was a mischievous gift from Mother Nature none the less. -Scott-
Remember when this would happen? You’d do something to get your mom mad, she’d go to yell at you, but call you by your brother’s or sister’s name? Then she’d go through the whole family, all the pets and sometimes even some of the neighborhood kids. By the time she got to your name you were a [...]
I’m under the weather, as they say so talking animals is all I have for you today. What a nice way to celebrate strip 50! I want to thank all of you who have started voting for us on TopWebcomics. We jumped up the list by a 100 slots!!! You guys N gals are great!! [...]
Okay, I don’t like rats. It’s not just that they’re disgusting little critters, they’re also obnoxious bastards. You try and scare them off and they turn around and hiss at you, like you’re the one trespassing. Damn lazy cats! On a side note… if you enjoy the comic strip, please use the voting button at the [...]
We like winter as much as the next guy, but really… there comes a point when the weatherman says that there’s no end of the cold weather in sight, you look out of the window and see the thermometer is down at-30 again and you crack. Plain and simple. -Scott-
We measure the amount of snow by how much of the yard furniture we can see. Some days are better than others. -Scott-
It’s been -30 Celsius and under every night for the last week. During the day it’s -20 Celsius. Keeping winter out is a full time job. -Scott-
A paper rose. It sounded fun when I thought about it. Hey, I know I don’t Blog very often on this site, but I recently found a fun webcomic worth checking out. I wrote about it over here. -Scott-
I think that having your birthday around Valentine’s Day or Christmas should be against the law! -Scott-
If you’ve seen the Pixar short Boundin’ from The Incredibles DVD, then you know how crazy sheep look when they “run”. Because they don’t run… they… well, bound, I guess. And to get them to follow you back to the barn, you have to go a boundin’. This takes a few seconds to start so [...]
I think a majority of men who have beards, have one just because shaving is such a pain in the ass. And to think as a teenager I couldn’t wait for that thick stubble to start growing… -Scott-
I think that both Pablo and myself are more at one with our manlyhood than this, but it’s fun to joke about. And it IS cute! -Scott-
It sounds shady, but Steve (Forbes) really has been a HUGE help. Not just to me, but to many others. I first ran in to him over on the Digital Webbing forums (DW and ComicGeekSpeak forums are pretty much the ONLY forums I hang around at because of the lack of trolls) He does freelance [...]
A while back I decided to shop Heroes, inc. (my other webcomic) around to various publishers. The series is so big and contains SO many details which I considered deal-makers, that it was IMPOSSIBLE to render down into ONE page! Obviously I’m not the only one with this problem because the internet is FULL of literature on the subject of creating “winning” pitches. [...]
Who the heck came up with the idea that “Hey…! I bet that if I put my fingers in my mouth, I can whistle so loud that dogs go nuts!” -Scott-
What? You think your pets don’t talk about you behind your back? I bet they’re doing it right now! -Scott-
She isn’t REALLY that psychotic… On a side note… I will be making some changes to the RSS feed. I plan to change it so that only the title and a link to the comic will appear in the RSS. I know a lot of you get your updates through the RSS and I realize [...]
This has been on my wishlist for some time now, so what can I say… I’m excited. I was blind, but now I see. -Scott-
I KNOW she likes the mug, but I’m sure this has happened to a lot of you out there, right? You’re happy with the gift you got someone, but then you think, Hmm, could I have got something better? Does the thought really count? If it was anyone else I might really be emberassed. -Scott-
I originally made this YEARS ago as a little rolled up Christmas gift for my dad. At the time I was toying with an idea of doing a strip revolving around our daughter. She was four, I think, and it was a bit of a Calvin and Hobbes influenced thing. I updated her appearance a [...]
Every year… the kids go ballistic around Christmas. The whole be nice, beacuas Santa is makin his list… doesn’t work. They go nuts. The behavior is at it’s worse around Christmas. I’m glad it’s almost over! -Scott-
What can I say? We’re huge Calvin and Hobbes fans. Our kids haven’t found their inner Calvin yet. -Scott-
She’s not REALLY that weird… even though this is a true story too. Okay… she is weird, but that’s why I love her. -Scott-
Trying to convince a child that the word that comes out of their mouth isn’t right, is one of the hardest things to do. Try as you might, they HEAR the right word and many times it ends in tears of confusion and frustration. -Scott-
Inspired by the latest Ice Age movie, our son practiced his two-fingered T-Rex technique in front of the mirror and had the whole family going. -Scott-
Yup. When the hunt for a new car started, the criteria was pretty strict. We have three kids and three dogs, so if we travel we NEED room. But we also need safety. Three point seatbelts are a MUST. Our roads get really snowed in so a 4X4 is also something we need. All of [...]
There’s some Asian theme going on at our children’s school. They’ve been learning about various things and especially our son has fallen in love with the Orient. -Scott-
This is published after the fact, but it fits in well since I skipped an update. After our piece of crap car broke down, the kids and I had to walk a pretty far distance in the freezing cold wind. Luckily the kids were dressed in their winter cloths. I, however, not expecting to be [...]
I hate cars. I hate them with a passion. I don’t think I’ve ever had a car that wasn’t a piece of crap. -Scott-
I’ll never understand how someone so pretty can make herself look so wacky and sometimes just plain ugly. But it IS entertaining. -Scott-
It didn’t take long for the first writers block. Things screetch to a halt when forced though so it’s best to just sit back and let them roll. -Scott-
Part of doing any kind of comic is finding there right font for different situations. It’s especially hard when it’s something like this that will have a fare amount of humor and unlike more serious series you can go all out with fonts. -Scott-
